I just received word here in Arizona that CART services have been questioned as to their helpfulness. I am a student at the University of Arizona. I have been using CART services for almost four years now. I have to say that if I did not have these services, my grades would not be where they are today. I remember what it was like without services and having CART to help me in school has made a world of difference. I hope that the word gets spread that CART services is one of the best ways to help someone with a hearing impairment get through school with an easier time.
Notetaking is often a good addition to CART because it highlights or touches on the key points; however, to have notetaking as the sole service in a class does not provide equal access to the education students are paying for.
If disability services were to take this service away from me, I would be talking to my lawyer! Someone with normal hearing gets the full benefits of their education because there is no impediment keeping them from their teachers' knowledge and experience. I need this service to get the same education!
